We are quickly approaching the New Year, which means that the talk of resolutions will start in less than a week.
For most of my life, I wasn’t a big believer in major resolutions made at a relatively arbitrary time. But then I realized that standard resolutions are the unpleasant things we don’t want to do. Let’s turn that around and make some exciting resolutions!
Here are more than fifty ideas to get you started. You can use these as they are or as a starting point to create your own goals.
Technical Skills for Stellar Quilt Tops
- Have you mastered Half Square Triangles? Try Half Rectangle Triangles (HRT)!
- Learn to sew curves- It’s easier than you think!
- Give piecing full circles a go.
- Start foundation paper piecing with a simple repeating block.
- Master foundation paper piecing with a design using irregularly shaped pieces.
- Try English Paper PiecingSet (EPP) for an on-the-go project.
- Make a project using appliqué
Diversify Your Quilting Methods
- Free motion quilt on your domestic sewing machine.
- Use a walking foot to quilt a project.
- Hand quilt a project, or mix hand and machine quilting.
- Try longarm quilting at a quilt show or local shop.

December 27, 2024 at 10:07 amHappy New Year! Finally, a blogger that isn’t still trying to sell me stocking stuffers; who doesn’t keep developing patterns using the same block motif in different ways for yet another year; who loves to use all the colors in the color wheel and who doesn’t have so many pop ups on their blog that it stalls our computers. I love that you’re looking to the future with your quilting and encouraging us to move on with you. Please keep up the good work!
