Friendship Chain and More! Capture this Free Block Pattern

May 2, 2023

There are more than 50 quilt block names including some form of the word “friend,” and five of those are called Friendship Chain. For this month’s friendship themed Quilt Block Mania, I am thrilled to bring you a variation on one of these Friendship Chain blocks!

Friendship Chain Quilt Block

This Friendship Chain block is inspired by block 1239.3 in Barbara Brackman’s Encyclopedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. The original is more scrappy, while my version plays with light and dark versions of the same colors. This is a fun block on it’s own, but it looks particularly great in multiples.

Color and Fabric

I used Painter’s Palette Solids from PBS Fabrics to create this block. All of the colors used in this block have appeared in blocks that have appeared earlier this year.

  • Banana (light yellow)
  • Bright Yellow (dark yellow)
  • Petunia (light pink)
  • Raspberry (dark pink)
  • Marine (blue background)

This is my favorite block so far! I can see so much potential for a quilt in many different colors for this block! Thanks so much for providing this one, especially for free.
