Dynamic design meets straightforward construction using half-square triangles and stitch and flip techniques.
The Value of Value began as The Value of Coral way back when Pantone announced Living Coral as the color of the year. I set out to highlight the color by embracing four values to create a bold design with the illusion of depth.

I’ve had many requests for a pattern for this design, and today, you can get the print pattern! (The downloadable PDF Pattern is coming soon.)
About The Value of Value
This design is perfect for quilters of almost any skill level. If it looks complex, that is just part of the illusion- The entire quilt is made using half-square triangles and stitch and flip techniques. There are NO Y-seams or partial seams. As a bonus, the seams in this design nest beautifully, so you won’t even have a bunch of bulk where the seams come together.

This printed pattern features step-by-step instructions, full-color illustrations, and supplemental online information and guides.

FINISHED QUILT SIZE: 56″ x 70″ made with twenty 14″ square blocks.
Selecting Your Fabrics:
Value is critical to the success of this design. For the most consistent results, choose four distinct values of the same color plus a very dark or accent color. This design works best with solids and subtly textured or tone-on-tone prints. The use of high-contrast prints may diminish the dimensional effect of the design.
Here’s what you need to make the quilt:
- 1-1/2 yards of Light Fabric
- 1-1/2 yards of Medium-Light Fabric
- 1-1/2 yards of Medium-Dark Fabric
- 1-1/2 yards of Dark Fabric
- 1 yard of Very Dark or Accent Fabric
- 5/8 yard Binding Fabric
- 4 yards Backing Fabric (or 2 yards wideback Fabric)
- Twin Sized Batting
Do you want to guarantee that you have fabrics that will work? I’ve put together fabric bundles in four colorways to make creating your quilt even easier. Choose between coral (the original), blue, green, or violet.

The Painter’s Palette Solids comprising this bundle are quilt shop quality fabrics produced by PBS Textiles. Each fabric is labeled with the quilt name, PBS fabric name, the color name used in the pattern, and the size of the fabric cut. Each bundle includes 7-5/8 yards of fabric.

You can also get the pattern independently if you prefer to choose your fabrics.
I’m excited to release this pattern this weekend at the Ohio One Stop Shop Hop at the Nutter Center near Dayton, Ohio. I hope you’ll stop by to say hello if you are in the area!
