Win a PDF Pattern of Rainbow Rotary for Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!

December 9, 2015

Update:  This Giveaway is now closed.  Congratulations Margaret!

Rainbow Rotary is one of the most popular mini quilt that I have shared this year, and now the pattern is available on Craftsy!  For Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day, I am happy to offer a PDF pattern of this quilt in three different sizes!

Rainbow Rotary

Rainbow Rotary

Inspired by my love of the Courthouse Steps quilt block, this quilt reinterprets the traditional block into a wedge shape to create a ring of color. This is the perfect project to show off all of the vibrantly colored fabrics in your scrap box, and a great opportunity to share fabric with friends.

Templates are included to create this pattern in three sizes:

  • Micro Mini:    9.25″ x 9.25″
  • Mini:                18.5″ x 18.25″  (this size is pictured above)
  • Macro Mini:    24″ x  24″

I am currently offering this pattern as a “template only” pattern, which allows for a relatively low price of $4.  General instructions are offered, but detailed written directions and step by step diagrams for foundation paper piecing are not included.  I believe quilters with previous experience paper piecing will enjoy constructing this mini quilt.  (My free block pattern, Summer Starburst, does include detailed instruction on foundation paper piecing if you are interested in learning the technique!)

How to Enter

  • This giveaway is open from Wednesday, December 9 to 11:59pm Eastern on Sunday, December 13th.  I will notify the winner both by email and on the blog by Wednesday, December 16th.
  • This giveaway is open internationally
  • The winner will receive a PDF pattern (Foundation Paper Piecing templates for three sizes of the Rainbow Rotary Quilt and general directions) via email
  • To enter please leave a comment on this post.  I have spent much of the year making mini quilts, and I would love to hear your thoughts on this particular type of quilt.  Love Minis?  Hate them?  Have you made a mini?  Is there a pattern you would like to try? Have you participated in a mini swap?  Have you ever made a rainbow quilt of any type?
  • The winner will be determined by a random drawing.

Good Luck!  Please be sure to check out all of the other fantastic giveaways going on this week on Sew Mama Sew!

I had some mini quilts from the 2014 year. It was a big fun to try sewing in a mini scale pattern of Twisted Log Cabin and quilting was so much easier too 🙂
Thx for hosting – beautiful design 🙂

I like making mini quilts though mine are usually about the size of a fat quarter so they are mini but not micro. They are a fun way of trying something while not having to commit the time and fabric to an entire quilt.

I enjoy making mini’s. This year I began making a monthly mini for my son and my daughter and for myself. I gave each a tabletop quilt stand and prepared each quilt with a hanging sleeve. I managed to get 9 months done for us all. I will finish the other 3 this year. It has been fun and I will make more in the future.

What a beautiful mini! I’ve really enjoyed making a few minis over the last year for a few different craft swaps I participated in. I only have 2 that were given to me from others (through those swaps) but I haven’t kept any of the ones I’ve made for myself. I love minis because its just one more way to be crafty and show off your art style. Hoping to fill a wall with minis someday 🙂

Mini’s are awesome. Wether or not it’s mugrug size or bigger, but I really like them, I have received several in swaps and made just as many in return, but not just for swaps, also for challenges and myself. I currently have 6 of them on my wall, one is downstairs in the living room. I just love how creative you can get with them and I love a rainbow theme. I’m actually currently in a pillow swap group, where I have just made anoher inspirational mosaic with lots of rainbow themed ideas for my furture partner. I think I need to make a second one and add this. So gorgeous!

I think mini quilts are cute and beautiful and I love a quick finish project. But, my husband won’t let me hang them on a wall, so I would rather make a mug rug or lap size quilt. If I won this pattern, I would enlarge it to lap size. Its a beauty.

    What a wonderful quilt!

I love small quilts. I have been in several doll quilt swaps over the years both through cyberspace and real life. My goal is to have a collection large enough to cover an entire wall in my house (which will, hopefully, be in my sewing studio).

I have not yet made a quilt using the rainbow. . . .but you have piqued my interest in checking out my stash to see if I have enough colors to do one.

    Thank you,

I love minis! I’ve only made one (and received one), but I love that you can put so much intricacy in such a small quilt. Sometimes I would never finish a BIG quilt for a certain pattern (too much work or detail or whatever), but a mini gives you a little taste of the pattern without wearing you out!

It looks like he is showing off his handiwork. Of course this needs to be changed often, so the more mini’s the better. I’m sure Griswald would love to show off the rotary rainbow mini. I’ve been participating in Focus through the Prism through Persimon Dreams this year and made nine 20″ quilts – two were extras. I’ve also belonged to an art quilt group (I’m totally outclassed there) and we use a 12″ format. Last year I made a color wheel from a pattern by Jacqueline deJonge. I think that having small quilts to work with allows me greater freedom to experiment without the expense entailed in a large quilt. Additionally, it is very hard to machine quilt a large quilt on a domestic sewing machine. My shoulders and neck tell me that all the time.

Thank you for the opportunity to win this pattern.

I just started making minis this year after signing up for my first swap, and I have to say they’re pretty addictive! Considering that I only really finish about one regular sized quilt a year, there’s so much satisfaction in actually getting a whole project finished in a shorter time!

I like making minis almost always using paper piecing. The great thing about a small quilt is that you (or if gifted, that person) can usually find a spot to display it. thanks for the chance to win. Happy Holidays!
